Over the past three weeks, THEATER DER KLÄNGE has been intensively researching folk dances and music from the Rhineland and Westphalia, but also dances from the so-called BalFolk. The core of the rehearsals was the testing of possibilities to vary and modernize the traditional structures, steps and combinations through contemporary dancers and to interpret them musically in a new way through a form of electro-folk.

Essential for these forms of communal dancing are choreographies that can be learned quickly by an audience, which is why we have modified two BalFolk dances and a traditional Quadrille to dance them together in the form of a “Bal modern” with an audience willing to dance.

On Saturday, 24 June 2023, at 4 pm, we will present three currently developed contemporary dance adaptations of (folk) dances on the stage of the Music Pavilion in Düsseldorf’s Hofgarten.

Following the approx. 20-minute performance, the audience is invited to learn two to three dances with us, which will be performed collectively in the form of a “Bal modern” on the lawn in front of the Musikpavillon together with the dancers of our ensemble.

The research phase of the project “Palimpsest” is supported by the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media within the framework of “Neustart Kultur”.
